Public Sector & Public Assets

A fixed-asset count that finishes the same day it starts.

Public building store room with tagged assets

Where the day goes wrong

The annual count stops the work.

Counting a site means taking people off their jobs and walking the buildings with a spreadsheet, and the count still closes as a sample. Read the assets where they sit and the count closes while the offices stay open.

Why it is hardAn asset count is a bulk read across rooms, racks and outbuildings, and the reason it usually closes as a sample is that a hand count costs people-hours nobody has. A read without line of sight is what changes the arithmetic: a rack or a room resolves in a pass, so the count can be complete without taking the team off their jobs.

Our partA JNC-DW07 doorway covers the store where assets come and go, the JMDS65 handheld covers the floors and the outbuildings, and the JMDT80 tablet gives the larger screen that a site-wide walk needs. The count closes while the offices stay open.

A transfer is recorded on paper.

Equipment moves between departments on a signed form, and the register catches up weeks later or never does. Read the asset at the handover and both departments work from the same owner the same day.

Why it is hardA transfer is the read at the handover, and the register moves with the asset rather than after it. Because each unit carries its own identity, both departments are looking at the same owner on the same day instead of two forms that will be reconciled next month.

Our partThe handheld does the handover read, and the JNR-DSE desktop readers cover the counter where equipment is signed in and out.

An audit request takes days to answer.

When the records are asked for, someone walks the floors and rebuilds the list from forms. Read the asset and its history sits with it, ready the moment it is asked for.

Why it is hardAn audit is a query against a history, and a history only exists if each movement wrote one. Because the identity travels with the asset, the answer is a lookup rather than a walk of the floors to rebuild a list from forms.

Our partA JNR-E401N or JNR-E801N with JNA series antennas covers a fixed room or store where the doorway is not the right place to read, and the record stays in the asset register you already run.

How RFID reads a room

Public-sector asset work is mostly a sampling problem disguised as a technology problem. One reader and one antenna cover a room or a store; a handheld covers everything in between; and the mix between the two is decided by how the site is laid out, which is what a survey answers. Metals and liquids are the two cases that change how far a read reaches, so those are the ones we test for on site rather than assume.

  • Room-level presence without line of sight
  • Register moves at the handover
  • History carried on the identity

We supply the readers, antennas, cabinets and handheld, and we survey the site before the order to size the mix.

How it runs

  1. Tag and register Each asset is given one identity and entered once, at the point it is taken on charge.
  2. Transfer between departments The asset is read at the handover and the register moves with it rather than after it.
  3. Count and audit Rooms and racks are read where they stand, and the list is ready when it is asked for.

Questions we get

Can a room be counted without emptying it?
Yes, when the assets are tagged and the read points are placed for the room. Metal and liquid are the two cases we survey on site.
Does it replace our asset register?
No. It feeds the asset and the time into the system you already run.
Can one installation cover several buildings?
A fixed reader and antennas cover a room or a store; a handheld covers everything in between. The mix depends on how the site is laid out, which is what we survey.
