Where the day goes wrong

A recall starts with a paper trail.

When a batch has to be traced, the route runs through handwritten logs and shift sheets, and the answer takes days or does not come at all. Read each cell or module where it is made and the batch, the shift and the delivery all resolve from one record.

Why it is hardTraceability needs one identifier bound to the unit at the point it is made, because everything later - the batch, the shift, the delivery - can then resolve from that one anchor. A record that is written by hand at one step and typed in at the next has two chances to be wrong, and a recall has to trust both. The battery passport under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 Article 77 is built on the same idea: a unique identifier per unit.

Our partA JNR-E401N or JNR-E801N with JNA series antennas reads the part where it is produced and writes the record once, at the point of the move. Our part is the reading and identification layer that sits underneath a passport system, not the passport system itself.

The line writes the same number down twice.

An operator logs the move by hand and someone updates the system later, so the count at the station and the count on the screen disagree until they are reconciled. Read the part as it passes the station and the two numbers move together.

Why it is hardA station pass-through read replaces a hand entry and a later key entry with a single event. The station counter and the screen counter then move together because they were never two counters. Where stations sit close together, dense-interrogator operation is what keeps one reader's carrier from deafening the reader at the next station.

Our partThe JNR-E1601N covers a long line where the read point is a distance from the panel, and the JNR-E401N covers a compact cell. Antenna choice does the shaping, which is the part we survey before the order.

A tool left behind is an incident waiting to happen.

Test sets, insulated tools and safety gear go out to substations and come back on trust. Issue and return against a badge, and the load can be checked before the vehicle leaves the yard.

Why it is hardIssue against a badge is what turns a trust-based handover into a record, and a read point at the yard gate is what confirms the load before the vehicle leaves. Insulated tools and test sets are metal, so this is the on-metal tag case again - the tag has to be built for the surface it is stuck to.

Our partSubstation tool cabinets hold the issue-and-return record, and a warehouse-doorway read using the JNC-DW07 range closes the loop before the crew leaves the yard.

How RFID follows a unit

Two things make energy and utilities different. The first is that the unit identity has to be created at the start of a long chain, because a recall is only as fast as the weakest record in it. The second is that the things being tracked are metal, and often metal that is holding an electric charge near a reader. A stable identity plus a read zone surveyed for the actual geometry is what makes the chain hold from cell production to the substation.

  • One identifier bound at production
  • Dense-interrogator mode where stations are close
  • Reading layer under the battery passport

We supply the readers, the antennas and the cabinets, and we survey the station and the yard before the order.

How it runs

  1. Cell and module identity An identifier is bound to the part where it is produced, so every later move points back to the same unit.
  2. Station pass-through The part is read at each station and the record is written once, at the point of the move.
  3. In, out, and out to site Pallets are read at the warehouse door, and tools are issued against a badge before a crew leaves for the substation.

Questions we get

Is item-level identification the same as the EU battery passport?
The battery passport under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 Article 77 covers EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh and is in force from 18 February 2027. It is built on a unique identifier per unit. Our part is the reading and identification layer that sits underneath it, not the passport system itself.
Will a tag still read on metal or next to liquid?
Those are the two cases that change how a tag answers. On-metal tags and a read zone that is surveyed for the position are how we handle them.
Does the data reach our MES or EMS?
The readers expose a documented API and SDK, and we work with your integrator on the interface.

Tell us what you build and where it travels.

Send the product family, the line layout and the sites the tools go to, and we will come back with a read-point plan.
